"Jaybird"
South Jordan, UT-Our loving husband, father and
grandfather, Jay LaMar Fullmer passed away peacefully on April 22, 2015 due to
complications from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. He was surrounded by his
loving family. He was born March 9, 1937 to Lawrence (Tuff) Fullmer and Mary
Emma Iff. He graduated from Jordan High School and married his eternal
sweetheart, Marilyn Alayne Ball on June 13, 1958 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
They were blessed with 7 children. Jay felt his family was his biggest
accomplishment. Jay was the second of the three fighting Fullmer brothers. As a
professional boxer, his debut fight was in 1956 in Madison Square Garden. After
an eye injury ended his boxing career prematurely, he dedicated the rest of his
life to coaching and mentoring thousands of young men in the sport of boxing.
He was a founding member of the Fullmer Brothers Boxing Gym. He also spent over
50 years as a boxing referee and judge. Jay worked for 31 years at Kennecott
Copper Corp. and 13 years as a bailiff for SL County. He was a faithful member
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many callings
including stake missionary, member of the Bishopric, temple worker in the
Jordan River Temple for 16 years and as a service missionary with his wife. Jay
will be remembered for his quick wit, humility, integrity and his love for
others. To know Jay was to love him.
Survived by Marilyn, his wife of almost 57 years,
his 6 children Shellie Crowther (Allan), Shareen Neff (Scott), Kevin, Shane
(Brenda), Chet (Kim), Cody (Jessica); 25 grandchildren and 33 great
grandchildren, his brother Gene (Karen) and son in law Glen Ballard. Preceded
in death by his daughter Tammy, Brother Don, Sister Colleen and his parents.

Uncle Jay's funeral was on Monday 4.27 so my parents and I headed up early Sunday morning to spend time with Grandpa Gene. The funeral was really nice and it's always good to see family even if it is under these circumstances.
Uncle Jay was always so happy and had a smile on his face! I remember him dressing up in any kind of hat at Christmas and talking all goofy. He also had a very nice singing voice!!
